We here a Misfits HQ received a rather interesting letter the other day and thought we’d share it with you:
We’ve been watching you.
Yes, you.
The one typing into the wee hours of the morning to get a few words out on a breaking story. You, the one pushing the mainstream media when they refuse to cover news that flies in the face of their beloved narrative. You, the annoying one yelling for information transparency in your spare time while holding down numerous other jobs and chasing kids.
Yes, we know what you are.
You’re just a blogger.
Sure, you had a few wins. You managed to blow wide open the narrative on a handful of stories, but . . .
You’re just a blogger.
So maybe we’ve had to retract a few statements, a few politicians have had to leave their posts in disgrace, and a few thousand documents may have gone missing for our self-preservation, but . . .
You’re still just a blogger.
We know living this second life, using up every ounce off your spare time to write, research, and get your voice out there is exhausting. Doing vast amounts of work for little or no pay, recognition or reward. We know you can’t keep it up forever, right?
I mean, it’s not like we care. We don’t obsess over you. We don’t worry. You’re bound to die out eventually . . .
It’s not like we spend inordinate amounts of time belittling you, attempting to mock your credentials for even attempting to be a journalist. Sure, you’ve had your heyday . . . you managed to find a leader who saw potential in you, saw what you could be, what you could change. But with the loss of the leader comes the downfall of the army . . .
. . . right?!?
We would never admit to something as silly as noticing a growing strength, a dull roar of a surging movement or the involvement of the previously apathetic and the new-found energy of your veterans. To think that your vigor has grown tenfold, that your passion is infectious, that the American masses would not only begin listening to you over us, but join you . . . why, that would be silly. I mean, it’s not like we fear you . . .
